Fits 5 or 6 speed Getrag AWD transaxle When the 1st or 2nd Gear Wearable Inner Friction Ring wears past normal maintanance replacement wear, the Inner and Outer Steel Synchro Rings that the Inner Friction Ring brakes against to slow the gear and ready it for engagement take on increased stress and wear due to the inner wearabe friction ring no longer having sacrificial wear material left which creates a metal on metal wear. A lowered oil lubrication issue exists within the 3 part synchronization set because the oil grooves built into the inner friction ring that facilitate getting lubricating oil into the 3 part synchronization are gone due to the excessive friction ring wear which causes more wear and overheating damage This metal on metal wear, and lowered lubrication causes the outer and inner metal rings to become damaged and need to be replaced. Replacing just the inner friction ring will cause accelerated wear and damage to the new friction ring will quickly start grinding gears again. The inner and outer steel rings brake the gear to facilitate gear engagement by the friction of the inner friction ring braking up against the shiny chrome surfaces of the steel rings. If there is any damage on these shiny chome surfaces they will need to be replaced. This includes any discoloration, smearing of brass color which is friction ring transfer, any marring or wear or scratches. If the Inner surface of the outer steel ring or the outer surface of the inner steel ring is not perfectly shiny smooth chrome they need to be replaced. To rebuild your transaxle correctly you need to replace all 3 parts included in this OEM set, otherwise the rebuild will be short lived and a waste of your hard earned money because you WILL end up having to rebuild it in a short amount of miles.
