Replace your old rusted, or stripped Battery Hold Down Nuts and Washers. These Nuts and Washers are not like normal M6 Hardware. The Nut is known as a Captured/Captive Flange/Washer Nut. The Nut Flange/Washer is permanently attached but free spins while the nut is being tightened or loosened so that it does not cause the washer under it to spin. This is important when the washer is up against a painted surface you do not want to damage, like the black painted OEM Battery Tie Down Top Bracket. The Washers are also not normal M6 Washer specifications. This is because of the metal bars that make up the Battery Tie Down Top Bracket are spaced apart, far enough that the normal outside diameter of an M6 Washer is not wide enough. So a larger outside diameter washer is required. These are sometimes referred to as a fender washer as they are often used as fender hardware due to their larger area, spreading out the clamping force.
